A property in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, posed a unique challenge because of a natural spring that flows through the landscape year-round. The constant flow of water created ongoing drainage concerns and made the terrain difficult to work in. The team at R&R Enterprises was brought in to design and build a solution that could control the spring while stabilizing the surrounding hillside.

The homeowner needed a system that could safely manage the continuous water flow without damaging the landscape or nearby structures. Because the spring runs through the property at all times, construction required careful planning and specialized installation techniques.

Large Structural Retaining Wall Installation

To stabilize the area and create a solid foundation for the property, our landscapers constructed a large structural retaining wall using Recon block. These blocks are designed for heavy-duty retaining walls and provide the strength needed for large-scale projects.

Each block measures roughly 16 inches tall, 4 feet wide, and 2 feet deep. The completed wall stretches approximately 130 feet long and reaches a height of up to 17 feet at its highest point. Building a wall of this size requires precise installation, proper base preparation, and engineered drainage to maintain long-term stability.

Working conditions made the project even more complex. The natural spring running through the property had to be temporarily diverted so the team could properly excavate and prepare the area before installing the retaining wall system.

Managing the Natural Spring

One of the most important aspects of this project was to create a reliable landscape drainage solution for the natural spring that flows through the property. Rather than allowing water to spread across the property and cause erosion, the team designed a system that redirects the water through a pipe built into the retaining wall.

The water travels through the pipe and exits into a stone-lined drainage channel that safely carries it away from the structure. This channel was carefully built with river rock and natural stone to slow water flow while maintaining a natural appearance in the landscape.

This system allows the spring to continue flowing while protecting the surrounding area and preventing soil movement around the retaining wall.

Natural Pond and Stone Channel

A small pond feature was also incorporated at the beginning of the drainage system, where the spring water collects before moving through the channel. Large natural stones were placed around the pond to stabilize the edges and create a natural look that blends into the surrounding property.

From there, the water flows through a stone-lined stream channel that safely directs it away from the retaining wall and hillside.

A Challenging Project with Lasting Results

This retaining wall and drainage installation ranks among the more challenging projects completed by R&R Enterprises. The combination of constant water flow, tight working space, and the size of the structural wall required careful coordination and experience to complete successfully.

The finished installation now stabilizes the hillside, manages the natural spring, and provides a long-term drainage solution for the property in Twin Lakes.
